Bren School students take part in an intellectually challenging education designed to prepare them for leadership roles within a variety of careers in environmental problem-solving. Students obtain broad and balanced training in natural and social sciences, as well as management.
Additionally, Bren students participate in programs that emphasize both quantitative and analytical approaches to assessing and solving environmental problems.
Bren School students graduate with a comprehensive knowledge of the principles of environmental science and management and are prepared to account for the full range of physical, biological, social, political, and economic realities involved in environmental decision-making.
The Bren School offers a two-year professional Master of Environmental Science and Management (MESM) program and a PhD in Environmental Science and Management track consisting of directed research with a Bren faculty member and culminating in a doctoral dissertation. Also available within the PhD track is an emphasis in Economics and Environmental Science (EES). The program is offered jointly by the Bren School and the UCSB Economics Department.
