Bren Hall Featured in NPR Story about Urban Heat Island Effect

Solar panels on Bren Hall's "cool" roof.

Words about, and an image of, the white, heat-reflecting roof on Bren Hall and the solar panels that cover much of it are featured in a news story about urban heat island effect, which appears today on the home page of the National Public Radio web site.

The story, titled "Taking the Sizzle out of the City in Summer," was written by NPR reporter Scott Neuman, who was looking for an original angle on the current East Coast heat wave. It focuse on the increasing use of "cool roofs," which may be light in color or even have plants growing on them and can reduce the cost of air-conditioning buildings while cooling the city itself.
