The Bren School of Environmental Science & Management at UCSB is putting its money where its mouth is. The construction of the four-story building will incorporate the use of environment-friendly materials. It has been designed to harvest natural lighting, heating, and cooling. The carpets, wallboard, ceiling tiles, furniture and insulation will be made from recycled materials. The wood paneling will be made from certified sustainable forest harvests. And the landscape surrounding the building will be comprised of drought-tolerant native plants.
The structure, complete with laboratories, offices and a conference room, will be completed sometime in 2001.
The Bren School is UCSBs professional school that trains advanced students in environmental problem solving.
Construction of the Bren School of Environmental Science & Management, a $22 million project, began on April 19 at a groundbreaking ceremony.
