MESM Student Featured in UCSB Video Honoring Forty Years of Title IX

Bren School master's student and starting forward on the Gauchos basketball team Kirsten Tilleman (2013), is featured in a short film made by UCSB as part of "Thank You, Title IX — Clebrating 40 Years of Gender Equity Progress at UCSB," a two-week celebration of the groundbreaking 1972 law.

A section of the federal Education Amendments, Title IX outlawed gender discrimination in any educational program, including athletics, and has since proved to be one of the most significant civil rights laws for women in American history.

The eleven-plus-minute video features a variety of UCSB voices speaking about the importance of Title IX, including Chanclellor Henry T. Yang, Acting Associate Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity, and Academic Policy, Anna Everett, and Professor of Feminist Studies Eileen Boris, and Tilleman, who won MVP honors in last year's Big West basketball tournament, leading up to the NCAA tournament.

The UCSB Title IX anniversary celebration began October 15 and will continue for two weeks.
