Anna Talken

Bio
Anna Talken, a first-year master’s student, graduated from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo (SLO) in 2019 with a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences. During the last year of her undergraduate career, Anna conducted an extensive study on marine microplastic pollution along the SLO County coast. Anna’s connection with the ocean, stemming from her research background and her passion for the outdoors, has motivated her to learn more about the human impacts on marine systems. For the past two years, Anna has worked as a science writer and independent contractor for the California Marine Sanctuary Foundation, writing articles on current marine science issues and creating informative web pages that highlight California Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). She also worked as the Sustainability Assistant for a nonprofit, the Environmental Center of San Luis Obispo, where she led the SLO County Green Business Program and organized environmental networking events for the community. Anna will be specializing in Coastal Marine Resources Management at the Bren School with the goal of working at the intersection of marine science research and science communication.
