Bio
Growing up in Santa Cruz, CA Eleanor was always either in or next to the ocean, inspiring her love for the marine environment at a very young age. She followed her passions and graduated with honors from UC Santa Cruz with a B.S. in Marine Biology. While at UCSC she was an ecological research intern for NOAA, tagging and monitoring threatened steelhead and coho populations. Eleanor became an AAUS scientific diver giving her the opportunity to conduct research in the kelp forests of Monterey and the seagrass beds of Corsica. This is where she completed her senior thesis on the photo identification of the Mediterranean Moray. She then became a field technician for the Carr lab at UCSC, conducting surveys on SCUBA of marine protected areas for the Partnership of Interdisciplinary Studies of Coastal Oceans (PISCO). She spent four years surveying the kelp forests and beautiful coastline she grew up exploring. When she began working for the California Department of Fish and Wildlife she had the opportunity to interact closely with the fishing community, further inspiring her desire to help conserve our fisheries and improve science communication. At Bren she is excited to specialize in coastal resources and aid in the conservation and management of our fisheries, preserving this valuable natural resource and the underwater world she loves so much.
