Malia Michelsen holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science with a minor in Environmental Systems and Society from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). While working toward her degree, she interned at the Long Beach Utilities Department (LBUD), managing several rebate programs related to water and gas conservation. Upon graduating, Malia remained with LBUD as an analyst within the Water Resources Bureau. During this time, she was responsible for a number of monthly and annual production reporting efforts, and assisted with the development of the department’s Water Resources Plan. Malia’s early professional experience solidified her interest in pursuing a specialization in Water Resources Management at Bren. While attending graduate school at UC Santa Barbara, she aims to continue to develop expertise utilizing GIS and relevant modeling techniques to inform the state policies and regional planning efforts currently shaping domestic water supply reliability in California.
