Bio
Megan Hessel graduated from the University of Tampa with a B.S. in Environmental Science and minors in Marine Science and Sustainability. During undergrad, she was an active member of the Spatial Ecology Lab (SEL), where she conducted research on the diets, spatial distribution, and age and growth patterns of both native and invasive fish species. She also served as a teaching assistant for biostatistics, geographic information systems, and environmental microbiology, sparking her initial interest in data science and teaching.

While studying abroad in Fiji and Caribbean, Megan recognized just how essential sustainability and environmental stewardship are for community well-being. Inspired by the locals' environmental dedication and Megan’s love for teaching, she returned to campus as SEL’s public outreach coordinator and interned with the Sarasota County Government, designing environmental education programs that raise awareness and helped communities reconnect with the natural world.

Building on these experiences and passions, Megan aims to combine her academic background and research to develop data-driven environmental solutions that foster a sustainable relationship between humanity and the Earth. She is particularly interested in protecting coastal ecosystems and their reliant communities.
