MESM 2027
Bio
Quinn Moultire-Margolin earned his B.S degree in Biology from California Lutheran University in May 2021. He was elected to represent the Biology Department at the Swenson Summer Research Symposium by presenting his research on microfibers found within Mytilus californianus and edulis collected from harbors and jetties.
In the summer of 2022, Quinn interned for his district’s Assemblymember, conducting legislative research on drought mitigation. His work emphasized that polluted groundwater exacerbate water shortages caused by drought. He concluded that strengthening California’s water security requires policy that targets the remediation of its groundwater basins.
Quinn worked as a Sr. Environmental Compliance Specialist for Belshire from April 2023 until August 2025. He observed how companies vary in responses to regulations across multiple counties. These inconsistencies presented systemic gaps that allow the unauthorized release of hazardous materials to disperse across water systems and pollute the environment.
Quinn realized that his impact was limited to the facilities he monitored and was inspired to broaden his influence. He enrolled in the Bren school’s MESM program, specializing in pollution prevention and remediation. After graduation, he will focus on improving the standards by which the transportation, storage and disposal of hazardous waste to secure California’s water rights in preparation for future drought.
