Bio
Shey cut his teeth in a marine biogeochemistry lab while completing a degree in Biology from the College of Creative Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara. There, he researched the chemical interactions between deep-sea microbes and their environment, both in the field and at the lab bench. After graduation, Shey joined the climate technology start-up Symbrosia, where he helped commercialize methane-reducing seaweed extracts for cattle by serving as the bridge between R&D and business development.
Driven to deepen his experience on the economic side of environmental impact ventures, Shey then interned with Bhutan for Life, a first of its kind partnership between the government of Bhutan, the World Wildlife Fund, and Green Climate fund. There, he helped catalyze climate-smart initiatives in rural and indigenous communities throughout the country via innovative financing models.
Now pursuing a Master’s degree at the Bren School of Environmental Science and Management, Shey is building upon these experiences to continue promoting environmental impact entrepreneurship and innovation in developing regions. In his free time, Shey enjoys playing with geospatial datasets, sleeping under the stars, and film photography.
