Tom Wheeler

Bio
Thomas Wheeler, a first-year master’s student, graduated cum laude from Santa Clara University in 2016 with a B.S. in Environmental Science with an emphasis in Social Entrepreneurship. Thomas’s interest in bridging the environment and business goals led him to pursue an undergraduate fellowship with the Miller Center for Social Entrepreneurship. As a fellow, he conducted marketing and sales training research with Jibu’s clean water franchises in Uganda and Rwanda. After graduating and hiking the Pacific Crest Trail for five months, Thomas moved to the Philippines to work with CocoAseno, a social enterprise improving the livelihoods of rural coconut farmers. Following his passion for impact-driven business models, Thomas returned to his hometown in San Diego, CA to work with All Across Africa. As a Sales Associate, he connected East African women artisans with U.S. retailers including Williams-Sonoma, Wayfair, and The Little Market. At the Bren School, Thomas is seeking to use his private-sector background and recent education at UCSD Extension’s Data Science Bootcamp to help companies meet business and environmental targets using data science. Thomas will be pursuing a specializing in Coastal Marine Resource Management and is interested in land agriculture or marine aquaculture contexts.
