Something About Me

Andie is a rising fourth year at UC Santa Barbara majoring in Environmental Studies (B.A.) and Minoring in Spanish. Previously, Andie has conducted seaweed aquaculture research, as well as, seaweed restoration projects alongside the Froehlich Lab at UCSB and partnered with The Nature Conservancy. This summer, Andie is transitioning to a terrestrial project in this fellowship. She is working with PhD student Zoe Sims, to understand the social, economic and ecological barriers to implementing intercropping practices in agriculture in the US. This project will help inform decisions within the American agricultural system about implementable and sustainable changes that will benefit farmers, as well as, ecosystems. Additionally, she is working on an individual project where she will conduct a meta-analysis of nitrogen pollution from agriculture in intercropped fields compared to monoculture. She is particularly excited to advance work collaboratively and independently throughout this project. In the future, she hopes to expand on her previous and current work to contribute to protecting the natural environment.
