Something About Me

Sofie is a rising fourth-year Environmental Studies major at UC Santa Barbara with interests in both the physical and social science sides of the field, particularly in ecosystem management, GIS, and renewable energy. Most recently, she worked as a Restoration Intern at the Coal Oil Point Reserve at UCSB, where she assisted with weeding invasive plants and propagating native species. In a GIS class, she worked on a project analyzing solar suitability on agricultural land in California’s Central Valley. After taking UCSB’s Aquatic Food and Resource Management course, she is spending the summer as a Fellow in partnership with The Nature Conservancy and the Pacific Coast Federation of Fishermen’s Associations (PCFFA), supporting efforts to recover lost Dungeness crab fishing gear and reduce whale entanglement risks off the California coast. She is especially excited to manage user testing for the program’s new app-based gear spotting feature.
