Bio
Carleigh Osen’s fascination with the natural world stems from her childhood in Northern California. Carleigh’s frequent explorations of both the Northern coast and the Lake Tahoe Basin inspired her interest in ecology. In 2019, Carleigh graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo with a degree in Biological Sciences. During her undergraduate career, Carleigh became intrigued by the bidirectional relationship between humans and the environment. Upon graduating, Carleigh worked for a renewable energy non-profit based in her hometown of Sacramento, California. In her role as Policy Coordinator, Carleigh helped advocate for clean energy solutions at both the state regulatory and legislative levels. Observing policy development and implementation firsthand instilled in Carleigh a strong enthusiasm for the connection between science, communities, and policymakers. At Bren, Carleigh hopes to deepen her understanding of effective science communication strategies and ultimately help bridge the gap between science and the public. She is interested in specializing in Economics and Politics of the Environment, with a focus in Strategic Environmental Communication.
