Bio
Carmen is a student in the Master of Environmental Data Science program at the University of California, Santa Barbara. She holds a B.S. in Biology and a B.S. in Earth and Ocean Sciences from Duke University (2018), and she brings a variety of work experience to the table. Following her passion for the ocean all over the world, Carmen has spent the last six years working in SCUBA instruction, aquaculture research, and environmental consulting. These experiences showed her the importance and fragility of local fisheries as well as the difficulties of developing and scaling aquaculture. She plans to incorporate her degrees and her background in the field to help steer the seafood industry in a more sustainable direction. She hopes that her work will continue to bring her to new corners of the world and allow her to connect with people participating in the seafood industry on all levels.
