Eva Juengling Bean is a MESM student at the Bren School. She graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2023 with degrees in Aquatic Biology and German Language and Culture. While pursuing her undergraduate degrees, Eva assisted in climate change research on the Kellet’s Whelk (Kelletia kelletii), an important Santa Barbara fishery species, and worked on restoring an endangered sea snail with the White Abalone Captive Breeding Program based out of UC Davis’s Bodega Marine Laboratory.
In tandem with her research pursuits, Eva was the Lead Aquarist at the Research, Experience, and Education Facility (REEF), UCSB’s touch tank aquarium, where she led informal science education programs and developed facility training curricula for aquarium volunteers. After graduation, she took her skills in pedagogy and team management to Explore Ecology, where she worked as an Environmental Educator for K-6th grade students throughout Santa Barbara County.
At Bren, Eva hopes to integrate her love of marine science with her love of education and outreach through a specialization in Coastal Resources Management and a focus in Communication. Outside of school, she enjoys cooking, playing music, cycling, swimming, and admiring charismatic sea snails.
