Joaquin Sandoval is currently a Master of Environmental Data Science (MEDS) student at the Bren School of Environmental Science and Management. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Aquatic Biology from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2023. While at UCSB, he participated in field research through National Science Foundation Research Experiences for Undergraduates (NSF REU) programs at both the Santa Barbara Coastal and Mo’orea Coral Reef Long-Term Ecological Research sites. Upon graduation, he joined the National Park Service, assisting Channel Islands National Park in monitoring the abundance, distribution, and size of marine invertebrates, algae, and fish using various sampling techniques. He hopes to couple his fieldwork experience with advanced data analysis skills to further contribute to the long-term monitoring of marine ecosystems and ultimately enhance the quality of conservation policy decisions.
