Bio
Joshua Ferrer-Lozano is a first-generation college graduate who earned his degree with honors and distinction from Sonoma State University, double majoring in Environmental Studies & Planning and Economics. His decision to pursue a master’s degree and his dedication to driving positive economic and environmental change are rooted in his commitment to service and volunteerism. As an AmeriCorps VISTA, Joshua supported the City and County of Honolulu in developing a comprehensive methodology for a county-wide greenhouse gas inventory, identifying mitigation strategies for its Resilience Strategy, and creating a publicly accessible sustainability report and dashboard. Following this, he served as a Peace Corps Volunteer, where he contributed to a local nonprofit through IT support, database and data dashboard development, translation services, and the facilitation of USAID-funded youth programs focused on employability skills. Drawing from both structured academic environments and hands-on field experience, Joshua aims to integrate economic and environmental theory with data science to address energy challenges and lessen the impact of anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions. As a current Master of Environmental Data Science student at UCSB, he is excited to be at the forefront of an emerging and dynamic field that bridges technology and sustainability.
