MEDS 2025

Pronouns: he/him

Bio
Joshua grew up delving into his various hobbies, many involving a computer. Furthermore, he was told that his generation was humanity's last chance to solve climate change. Like many others his age, this inspired him to do something about the issue. He completed a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science at Washington College with minors in Chesapeake Regional Studies and Music. But despite immense passion for the environment, Joshua lacked direction. His early career included everything from nonprofit outreach around the Chesapeake Bay, to catching butterflies, to GIS, to tortoise surveying in the Mohave. During a water monitoring job in Appalachia, a supervisor mentioned to him his aptitude for GIS. Seeking to make the greatest possible impact, Joshua then completed the UC Davis GIS Certification program through Coursera. But knowing he could accomplish more with a broader skillset, he sought out the MEDS program. Joshua believes that healing the environment is going to take everyone with every kind of skill set, from all walks of life. He is currently seeking ways to apply data science to another field of interest — entomology.
