Technical Applications Manager
Pronouns: she/they
As the Technical Applications Manager, Kat supports the Bren community with all technology-related needs, including but not limited to, troubleshooting software and networking-related issues. Kat manages the Bren School’s databases, designs and implements data storage solutions, and provides server administration support for users. In addition, Kat enjoys collaborating with Bren community members to identify technology-related areas for improvement and works closely with the rest of the compute team to devise, test, and implement improvements.
Prior to joining the compute team at Bren, Kat worked on a variety of ecological research projects at the UCSB Marine Science Institute. They have had experience in each stage of academic research--from fieldwork to lab work to data analysis to reporting. Kat was also a data fellow for the Environmental Data Initiative, where they had the opportunity to strengthen their skill set in data science and data management. Kat’s research and fellowship experience is why Kat enjoys working in higher education, and it is what drew them to work at the Bren School.
In their free time, Kat loves to travel, play basketball, try out TikTok recipes and share a meal/drink with friends. They are also enjoying learning how to throw (on a potter’s wheel). If you see them around, don't hesitate to say hi!
