Bio
Maeve is a current Bren student specializing in Conservation Planning with a focus in Communications. While pursuing a degree in Ecology and Evolution at UCSB, she discovered a passion for science communication through her experience working with MOXI, a local science museum. This led her to accept an internship through Conservation Legacy to work in the education division at Death Valley National Park, leading field trips across the park and collaborating on a new remote education program. She caught the national park bug and continued on to other positions with the National Park Service at Mount Rainier National Park and Rocky Mountain National Park. As an interpretive ranger she wrote and led audience-centered programs about subjects relevant to the park, focusing on the intersection between cultural and natural histories with emphasis on the effects of climate change. She worked with park geologists, botanists, historians, and other experts to bring accurate and important information to visitors. These experiences inspired her love of public lands, and with that a taste of the complexities of land management and conservation. She plans to use her STEM background along with her creative writing skills to advance and communicate data-driven land management decisions.
