Max Czapanskiy is an Assistant Teaching Professor of Marine Data Science at the Bren School of Environmental Science & Management and the College of Creative Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara. They will teach programming, statistics, and open science courses in the Bren School and the College of Creative Studies' new marine science major. Prior to joining UCSB, they were a postdoctoral researcher at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Southwest Fisheries Science Center where their work advanced open science goals for projects in the California Current and Antarctica. They received their PhD in Marine Biology from Stanford University, their master's in Geographic Information Science from San Francisco State University, and their bachelor's in Computer Science from Columbia University.
