Bio
Maya spent her childhood exploring the coast redwood forests, meandering rivers, and rocky coastline of Humboldt County, CA. Not only did these early memories shape the way in which Maya interacts and observes the natural world, they also inspired her professional and academic ambitions. In May 2025, Maya graduated cum laude from the University of California, Berkeley with a Bachelor of Science in Ecosystem Management and Forestry. Throughout her undergraduate career, Maya engaged in summer internships with Point Reyes National Seashore and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Fisheries. A semester spent abroad in Mo'orea, French Polynesia at UC Berkeley's Gump Station established a strong foundation in marine science research and desire to pursue post-graduate education. At Bren, Maya is specializing in Coastal Resources Management and Environmental Policy and hopes to work at the intersection of sustainable fisheries and traditional ecological knowledge (TEK). Outside of her professional career, Maya enjoys spending time in nature whether that be hiking, swimming, fishing, cooking, or biking.
