Naomi Raal graduated cum laude from UCLA in 2020 with a degree in Geography/Environmental studies. She is passionate about the intersection of social justice, inequality, and environmental science. While at UCLA she worked for the City of Santa Monica to implement their ambitious zero waste initiative where she organized and promoted sustainability events such as composting workshops and citywide yard sales. She has also volunteered extensively with homeless women in the Los Angeles area and is interested in how urban planning can alleviate California’s housing crisis and be sustainable at the same time. Before coming to the Bren School Naomi worked as a research assistant for UCLA’s geography department, contributing to research on biodiversity hotspots in southern California. She also worked as a GIS intern for Langan Engineering and Environmental Services. Naomi wants to utilize her background in science and GIS to protect vulnerable populations from the effects of pollution and global warming. At Bren, Naomi plans to specialize in Economics and Politics of the Environment with a focus in Communication.
