MESM 2027

Bio
Nathan Marcus Lau graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with Bachelor of Science degrees in Business Administration and Environmental Economics and Policy. While attending Berkeley’s Haas School of Business, he received the Undergraduate Research Apprenticeship Program (URAP) Summer Award for supporting research on how constraints influence creativity in new product development by interdisciplinary teams.

Following graduation, Nathan built a 10+ year career in digital marketing for media startups and technology enterprises, including Hewlett-Packard (HP). Most recently, he worked in community engagement and sales for Ridwell, a company that offers doorstep collection for hard-to-recycle materials. In that role, he engaged with thousands of San Francisco Bay Area households to discuss recycling and reuse.

Committed to advancing sustainability in his community, Nathan volunteers as a Master Composter with the UC Cooperative Extension, where he has educated hundreds of residents about home composting and organic waste diversion, in alignment with California’s SB 1383 climate goals.

At the Bren School of Environmental Science & Management, Nathan is pursuing a Master of Environmental Science and Management (MESM) degree with specializations in Pollution Prevention and Remediation and Business and Sustainability. He aims to leverage his background in data analysis and marketing communications to advance sustainable materials management and waste reduction efforts.
