Sofia holds a Bachelors in Environmental Studies and a minor in Hispanic Studies from Vassar College. Throughout her time at Vassar, she explored her interest through a broad scope of conservation work including an internship with NOAA where she researched plankton size based on environmental factors and a job at the Vassar College Biology Greenhouse where she helped run climate change experiments on plant growth. Since graduating, Sofia has delved into the environmental industry, serving in both AmeriCorps and Peace Corps, where she worked on climate action policy and community conservation, respectively. Most recently she has been working as a field biologist focusing on the protection of native fish and nesting birds. Sofia is excited for the new skills a Master of Environmental Data Science will provide to broaden her scope of work in the environmental field to analyze multifaceted environmental problems. She is most interested in using her aptitude to further the fields of sustainable fisheries, marine conservation, and environmental justice.
