MEDS 2026

Bio
Zach Loo was born and raised on Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi, where he developed a deep connection to the environment. Surrounded by a culture that cares deeply for the health of the land and sea, he chose to study Global Environmental Science at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. There, he supplemented his degree by participating in research experiences and cross-discipline studies in public health. For his undergraduate senior thesis, he examined how land-use patterns impacted water quality in an urban watershed on Oʻahu. Captivated by the rapidly expanding environmental data science field, Zach wanted to learn more about data science tools and applying them to environmental problems. As a member of the MEDS class of 2026 at UCSB, he is eager to apply his environmental data skills to develop solutions that promote the health of our environment. Zach hopes to continue working with water quality but also has interests in waste management and the intersection between human health and the surrounding environment.

In his free time, Zach enjoys surfing, gaming, reading, and cooking/eating Japanese curry.
