Something About Me

Calvin is a third-year geography student at UC Santa Barbara with an emphasis in ocean science. As a 2025 fellow, he is working on assessing and monitoring revegetation pathways of abandoned farmlands in California’s central valley through satellite remote sensing with PhD student James Cunningham as his advisor. Recently, his research and curriculum has been focused on remotesensing, and he is very excited to transition his coding skills to the Python API for Google Earth Engine! During the school year, he researches seasonal glaciation patterns in Antarctic seas and deploys moorings with the UCSB Coastal Oceanography and Autonomous Systems Lab (COAST Lab). He plans on pursuing a graduate degree after his four years in Santa Barbara, hoping to stay on the West Coast. In his free time, you can either catch him in the mountains rock climbing, backpacking, and snowboarding, or in the ocean riding his longboard.
