Something About Me
Mackenzie is a rising 4th year Environmental Studies B.A. and Aquatic Biology B.S. student at UC Santa Barbara. As a 2025 Fellow Mackenzie is working with The Nature Conservancy to complete a synthesis report of kelp recovery projects across California to be submitted to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and used in the Kelp Restoration and Management Plan. Aligning with her academic and professional interests in marine conservation and policy, Mackenzie is excited to be contributing to invaluable work supporting marine ecosystems while advocating for and driving actionable change in ecosystem restoration. Along with pursuing her professional passions of environmental conservation, she is passionate about environmental education and supporting environmental accessibility. With a local nonprofit, NatureTrack, Mackenzie leads K-12 outdoor field trips, builds environmental science curriculum, and has founded the nonprofit’s first student chapter where she actively supports, trains, and recruits other student volunteers. During the academic year, she will be completing an independent senior research thesis quantifying macroalgae cover on dead coral in Mo’orea, French Polynesia.
