Bio
Ben graduated from Cornell University (2020) with a dual degree in economics and statistical science. As an undergraduate, he held research and internship positions in health economics and finance. After graduating, he worked as an economic consultant, where he applied economic analysis to antitrust litigation and assisted with regulatory compliance for mergers and acquisitions. This work involved assessing the effect of mergers on consumer welfare, and the main metric used in this analysis was the extent to which the merger would increase the price or lower the quality of a product. Although the ability to afford goods and services is an important indicator of overall welfare, Ben realized that other factors, such as the health of the environment, also have an enormous impact on standard of living. These factors, however, are rarely considered within the traditional antitrust framework. This realization sparked an interest in studying how pollution, emissions, and waste are generated within industrial systems and inspired him to learn more about minimizing these negative externalities. At the Bren school, Ben hopes to pursue specializations in business and sustainability as well as pollution prevention and remediation.
