Bio
Carly Caswell is a graduate student in the UC Santa Barbara Bren School of Environmental Science and Management, working towards a Master's degree in Environmental Data Science. She graduated from the University of Vermont in 2018 with a B.S. in Analytics and a minor in Statistics. Carly has spent the last five years working in the software technology industry as a Consultant for Fortune 500 companies. In that role, she helped organizations leverage emerging technologies by designing and implementing more efficient systems and processes department-wide. This work has included the use of machine learning for demand forecasting and staffing optimization problems, along with development of project and portfolio management solutions for clients needing to deliver and report on thousands of projects each year. Outside of her time spent Consulting, and through her experiences in the outdoors as an avid hiker, runner, and skier, Carly has developed a deeper passion for the environment and learning about the global climate crisis. Carly believes strongly in the power of effective data science and ethical machine learning, and its abilities to inform key decision-making and outcomes that deliver action. She hopes that, with this degree, she can enact meaningful change to organizations working toward sustainable transformations, specifically by incorporating data science into emissions reduction strategies and life cycle assessments.
