Emmas research interests center on understanding ecosystem-climate interactions, particularly how climate change will impact biosphere carbon, water, and energy balances. She is largely interested in how climate change and extreme drought affect ecosystem resilience and the role of NbCS in mitigating these effects. Prior to Bren, Emma was an undergraduate research assistant in Sonali McDermid's Lab at NYU where she worked on using land system models to evaluate the biosphere-atmosphere carbon flux of Sahelian ecosystems during drought conditions. She has also worked in the clean energy sector working with companies like GE Gas Power and Rocky Mountain Institute, focusing on science communications and global decarbonization of energy systems.
