Bren-Environmental Studies Fellow 2023 - 2025
Something About Me
From Long Island, New York, I traveled to Santa Barbara for its Environmental Science program and perhaps for its beaches as well. Since I became a Fellow, I have obtained a research position working with Bren Professor Peter Alagona to create a story map for his research network website called calgrizzly.com. I also work as a paid intern for the Snowy Plover Docent Program at Coal Oil Point Reserve. Within my Environmental Studies major, I have focused on hydrology and conservation. I am also gaining an interest in using GIS technology and data science through my research position. I aspire to graduate from UC Santa Barbara with quality experiences and have plans to attend the Bren School of Environmental Science and Management. I plan to use my degrees to pursue a career in environmental management in order to contribute to mitigating the effects of climate change. In addition to my studies and volunteer work, I am an assistant manager at a sustainable scooter delivery company in Isla Vista called Duffl, I am the social chair for the UCSB club baseball team, and I am an avid surfer and runner. For any questions and comments, you can reach me at fhozven@ucsb.edu or can catch me walking my sister's puppy on the chemistry lawn.
