Originally from Panama City, Panama, Gabriela holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Biology from the Universidad de Panamá, and a Master of Science degree in Coastal and Watershed Science & Policy from CSUMB. Gabriela is going back to conducting research after working in higher education coordinating student success programs for several years. Gabriela's research interests include environmental politics in Latin America, and transparency in environmental management. Gabriela is particularly interested in how corruption impacts the management of watershed resources in Latin America. Her research will examine the vulnerabilities of Environmental Impact Assessment processes and how different management practices can increase their effectiveness. In her free time, Gabriela enjoys studying foreign languages, dancing, and traveling.
