Bio
Garrett Craig graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2013 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance and Marketing. Driven by a desire to tackle complex problems and catalyze societal change, he devoted much of the past decade improving U.S. healthcare delivery and operations by leading software implementations for hospitals, health systems, and clinics.
Recently, Garrett's focus has shifted to global issues. His Peace Corps service in Senegal, extensive backpacking in Aotearoa New Zealand, and volunteer efforts in Isle Royale National Park exposed him to the global scale of anthropogenic environmental degradation and biodiversity loss. More importantly, these experiences revealed how communities can harness science and human resolve to address these issues whether through mangrove reforestation, controlling invasive species, or reintroducing apex predators.
Inspired by these lessons, Garrett is now pursuing a Master of Environmental Science and Management at the Bren School, specializing in Conservation Planning and Environmental Policy. He ardently supports E.O. Wilson's Half-Earth initiative, which aims to preserve 50% of our planet for nature. Garrett believes that with ambitious, data-driven policy and dedicated ecological restoration efforts, Wilson's moonshot goal is achievable.
