Bio
Gilbert Yu graduated from California Polytechnic University San Luis Obispo in 2022 majoring in Environmental Management and Protection with a minor in Biology. During his undergraduate career, Gilbert worked as a research assistant in Nishanta Rajakaruna’s geoecology lab analyzing soil effects on rare and endangered wildflowers in the Carrizo Plains. He was awarded a Frost Fellowship for conducting literature review of harsh rock outcrops of North America for a future book. After graduating, Gilbert was a student intern for the GIS team at the San Francisco Bay Conservation Development Commission (BCDC) and improved the permit, jurisdictional, and public access data for the internal BCDC GIS map. Gilbert is currently attending the Bren School of Environmental Science & Management.He is interested in researching methods the government can use to improve implementation and creation of environmental policy that reduces the environmental blight on at-risk communities.
