Bio
Katerina Bischel graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara, in 2024 with a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies. She is set to graduate from the Master's in Environmental Science and Management program at UCSB Bren School in June 2026, specializing in Water Resources Management and Pollution Prevention and Remediation. Through research on native baby blue eyes plants and native bumblebees, Katerina gained knowledge in data analysis, fieldwork, and advanced scientific methods. She is dedicated to researching groundwater systems and water quality, with plans to eventually pursue a PhD in the water field. This focus connects to her senior thesis, where she investigated the reuse of discarded bivalve shells to combat ocean acidification, integrating scientific and Indigenous knowledge. Katerina's mission is to advance environmental policy and research by blending community engagement with scientific solutions to create sustainable ecosystems. Her ultimate goal is to connect traditional ecological practices with modern science, promoting sustainability for the benefit of people and the environment.
