Bio
Kiran Favre is pursuing a Master of Environmental Data Science degree at the University of California, Santa Barbara. She recently graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz with a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences, where she focused on climate change and oceanography. While there, she was a Santa Cruz Climate Action Program Intern who collected data on potential community responses to coastal erosion. Collecting this data and working with visualizations inspired her curiosity for data as a tool of scientific communication. Interest in undergraduate climate modeling and environmental data analysis studies drove Kiran to seek out the Bren School for Environmental Science & Management to deepen her understanding of the ocean’s response to climate change. She wants to learn how to use data science as a tool to find solutions to the issues faced by coastal communities and ecosystems in response to climate change. Kiran hopes to use her degree to contribute to open source scientific research and to further her interests in ocean conservation through environmental modeling.
