Bio
Lilia is driven by the critical need to address environmental issues affecting both people and nature. She has over five years of experience working in the field of riparian and estuarine conservation and holds a B.S. in Marine and Coastal Science and a minor in Geology from the University of California Davis (2019). Lilia initially explored these subjects through adventurous field positions across California, studying watershed geomorphology and salmonid fisheries. Notably, she served as a Watershed Stewards Program Corps Member with the California Conservation Corps in partnership with Americorps.
Most recently, Lilia worked at the San Francisco Estuary Institute (SFEI) on an applied research team focused on characterizing changes in the resiliency of the Bay's water quality in relation to wastewater discharge. This experience revealed the immense pressures urbanization places on the San Francisco Bay and highlighted the challenges of mitigation and adaptation along a developed coastline. Her work at SFEI inspired her to delve deeper into conservation planning, coastal marine management, and environmental equity through a Master's at Bren. After graduating, Lilia aims to work in coastal environments at the urban-nature interface, fostering healthy and resilient natural spaces and communities in the face of climate change.
