Bio
Madeleine Whitman graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 2017 with a B.S. in Ecology and Evolution. During her undergraduate career, she immersed herself in the world of scientific diving. This led her to work as a diver on an invasive lake trout project in Yellowstone National Park, where she became fascinated by fisheries management. After the season, she returned home and began working as a National Park Service ranger on the Channel Islands. Madeleine spoke to thousands of visitors from across the country and around the world about the importance of conservation. This experience inspired her passion for effectively communicating science to the public. She continued to pursue her interest in fisheries, working on two research projects involving chum salmon in Southeast Alaska and steelhead trout in Southern California. Madeleine plans to pursue a career in Coastal Resources Management where she can apply her public engagement skills to build public support and participation in marine, coastal, and fisheries policy decision-making.
