Bio
After graduating UCSB's Environmental Studies program in 2018, Nico joined Professor Roland Geyer's team as the lead researcher for a project estimating global synthetic microfiber emissions from apparel washing. Upon publication, The Nature Conservancy recruited Nico and Roland to conduct a similar study for California to provide quantitative support for their policy initiative aiming to reduce these emissions statewide.
Nico's focus pivoted towards environmental justice after conducting research that created a vulnerability index for carceral facilities located near Superfund sites nationwide. This passion for environmental justice was reinforced through Nico's personal experience with the queer, incarcerated, low-income, and sober communities in Los Angeles. In these spaces, Nico gained deep insights into the widespread social and environmental injustices affecting marginalized groups.
Nico's career aspirations focus on leveraging quantitative analysis to drive progress in environmental justice, corporate sustainability, and industrial ecology. With an entrepreneurial approach, he aims to tackle pressing environmental challenges by consulting on policy initiatives, corporate strategies, and research projects that promote sustainable development.
