Bio
Olivia's research focuses on understanding the ecological impacts of severe disturbances on coral reefs ecosystems and the drivers for recovery. Her research combines empirical and computational techniques through conducting experiments in Indo-Pacific reefs to develop projections of future reef structure. Her goal is to provide support for better conservation and management of reefs and ultimately assist global communities that rely on these critical ecosystems.
Olivia's career started as a marine scientist at the University of Tampa, where she earned her BS in Marine Science and Biology with an Environmental Minor, using laboratory, computational, and field research to explore the effects of climate change on various marine habitats. She has worked internationally, from conducting underwater research in the Caribbean to managing a marine conservation organization in the Maldives. At Bren, Olivia will enhance her abilities to perform novel research to further understand how these critical ecosystems are adapting in the face of climate change.
In addition to her research interests, Olivia is passionate about diverse representation in the science field and aspires to be a notable contributor in the marine world to inspire young scientists from diverse backgrounds to pursue a career in STEM.
