Peter is currently pursuing a masters degree in Environmental Data Science. He spent his undergraduate career studying Ecology and Environmental Biology at the University of North Carolina at Asheville. During this time, he entered the realm of environmental research as a technician with the US Forest Service. He also pursued his own research as an undergrad, looking at the habitat preferences of two orchid species in Western North Carolina. After graduating in 2016, he worked on a forest gap and regeneration study with NC State University. Curious about a career in education and wanting to become more involved in his community, Peter spent nearly three years as the environmental educator for a local nonprofit organization in Asheville, NC. During this time, he started teaching himself to code and was drawn to the idea of applying data science techniques to solving environmental issues. Peter hopes to use his Environmental Data Science degree to assess the use of emerging technologies in the fight against climate change.
