Bio
Becca’s doctoral research centers on understanding sources, transport, fates, and impacts of plastic and microplastic pollution. Much of her work has entailed extracting, characterizing, and chemically analyzing plastics and microplastics present in stormwater, soils, and sediments to aid in the design of source-control and bioremediation solutions. Becca’s research is guided by her passion for public service and environmental stewardship and broadly aims to improve public health and equitable access to ecosystem services in frontline communities.

Prior to joining the PhD program at the Bren School of Environmental Science & Management, Becca held leadership roles in the Girls in Science Program and the Internal Conservation Committee as an Educator at the San Diego Zoo. Becca received her Master’s degree from the Bren School, specializing in Pollution Prevention and Remediation and Water Resources Management, with a focus on Environmental Data Science. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Cell Biology from UC Davis.
