Bren-Environmental Studies Fellow 2022-2024
Something about me
Originally from South Los Angeles, Sam received his B.S.from UCSB in Environmental Studies with a concentration in Ecology, Evolution, and Marine Biology. Beginning in 2024, he will pursue a MESM at the Bren School of Environmental Science and Management. He plans to work in environmental planning and conservation, with a focus on policy. In the summer of 2022, he completed a UCSB-Mantell Summer Internship at the Audubon Center at Ernest E. Debs Regional Park in Los Angeles. This internship focused primarily on public outreach to diverse low-income neighborhoods, educating the community on the importance of green spaces in urban areas. Returning to the Mantell Program in the summer of 2023, he partnered with a Bren School of Environmental Science & Management graduate student on The Nature Conservancy's FishKit team, working to develop training tools for data collection and analysis for data-poor community fisheries around the world. FishKit manages projects in multiple communities in Hawaii, Mexico, and French Polynesia. In his free time, Sam enjoys developing his skills in graphic design, hiking, fishing, and birding.
