Bio
Simone Berkovitz is passionate about building cross-sector collaboration to reduce life-cycle product emissions and waste in the apparel industry. She is specializing in Corporate Environmental Management and Strategic Communications at the Bren School to learn how to build partnerships between apparel companies, local government, and environmental nonprofit organizations. Simone graduated in 2014 from Claremont McKenna College with a Bachelor of Arts, with honors, in Environment, Economics and Politics (EEP). She spent time researching the social and environmental impacts of indigenous community-run ecotourism enterprises, while living with a Quechua community in the Andes. As an environmental consultant, she helped a nascent public agency solve its land conservation regulatory challenges by serving as the project manager for their first annual report. She is adept at using data to guide organizational strategy and policy implementation. She then worked in operations and led the B Corp Certification process for a sustainable travel gear company. Most recently, she worked on zero waste program management and outreach in both the public and private sectors. Simone is originally from Ojai, CA where she grew up exploring nature and developing a passion for environmentalism from an early age. In her free time, she enjoys spending time outside surfing, rock climbing, and backpacking in the Sierra.
