Bio
Simran is a PhD student specializing in environmental justice and health equity. Her research is driven by a commitment to addressing the disproportionate impacts of climate change on minority and vulnerable communities. Simran's interest in environmental justice began during her master's dissertation at Indian Institute of Technology - Delhi, where she examined particulate matter (PM2.5) exposure disparities among rural demographic groups in India and explored the associated health burdens of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and Tracheal, Bronchus, and Lung Cancer.
With a strong interdisciplinary foundation, including an undergraduate degree in Botany from University of Delhi and a master's degree in Environment Management from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University in India, Simran aims to integrate geospatial and quantitative methods in her climate and environmental justice research. She is particularly interested in data-driven and evidence-based approaches to analyzing environmental justice issues in developing and low-income countries, where she plans to generate new insights that inform policy solutions and promote social equity.
Prior to her doctoral studies, Simran worked as a Professional at Quality Council of India, contributing to the nationwide Urban Outcomes Framework 2022. Her experience in observing the varied responses of cities and government officials to environmental conservation strengthened her passion for environmental justice and encouraged her to pursue research that can influence policy and drive meaningful change.
