Bio
Trace is a water resources scientist specializing in microbiological water quality. His research interests include fecal indicator bacteria, water and wastewater treatment, and microbial source tracking. He returns to UCSB after 6 years working for the City of Santa Barbara’s Water Resources Laboratory in progressive positions ranging from analyst to supervisor. Recognized for his adaptive and team-centric management approach, Trace received the 2021 Supervisor of the Year Award from the California Water Environment Association Tri-Counties Section and was the 2022 recipient of Lab Manager Magazine’s Young Lab Manager Excellence Award. Trace coalesces practical industry experience with his interdisciplinary academic background to protect public health and the environment, progress water reuse, and make overall contributions to the field of water resources.
As an alumnus of Santa Barbara City College, Trace demonstrates his commitment to the accessibility of scientific opportunities by participating in outreach events and serving as a resource for current SBCC students.
