Hydrologic Science and Policy and Earth Science Class of 2026
Something About Me
“Being able to work in the Keller lab reaffirmed my love of the scientific process altogether. Having the ability to work with awesome people on intriguing and challenging projects gave me both valuable insight and skills into the world of applied environmental science. From the solid phase extractions to the stream water sample collection, it was a fantastic experience!”
Phoenix is a third-year Hydrologic Science and Policy and Earth Science double major, with an emphasis in Geology at UC Santa Barbara. They have an affinity for the geologic and hydrologic sciences with an acute emphasis on groundwater management. This past summer, Phoenix worked to sample sources of microplastic pollution into groundwater aquifers to ultimately determine the main sources of groundwater pollution and analyze what pollutants and microplastics are present. Phoenix is under the mentorship of Becca Reynolds who is currently working towards her PhD under her advisor Dr. Arturo Keller. Phoenix is thrilled to gain hands-on experience in the field as well as seeing how a project moves from proposal to publication.
