Advanced Topics in Environmental Management: Conservation Results
This seminar actively engages students in understanding how to accomplish conservation outcomes through 1) governmental processes – passing legislation/ballot measures and creating protected areas, 2) nonprofit organization initiatives – conserving land, water and wildlife through diverse and complex partnerships, and 3) multi-party negotiations. The course uses case studies, includes conservation leaders as guest lecturers who share practical experiences and lessons learned, and actively engages students in the discussions. Course objectives include understanding ways to create durable solutions for conservation, learning how to navigate critical public and private processes, developing soft skills to achieve professional goals, and gaining valuable insights from a broad diversity of perspectives.
